Why Fall and Winter are the Best Time to Start Your Renovation

Don’t wait until the spring to start your building or renovation project!

Winter weather doesn’t stop builders from working, so there’s no reason to put your project on hold just because the temperature is dropping. For many renovations, such as kitchens or bathrooms, nearly all the work is done indoors, so the season doesn’t matter.

Even outdoor projects are not off limits. We’ve done multiple new builds and whole house renovations in the winter. In fact, there are a number of reasons why fall and winter are actually the best time to start your home remodel or renovation project.

Allow Time for Planning

A lot goes into a project long before the crew shows up to begin demolition or construction. Designing the perfect space for you and your budget is a detailed process. Even if you already have plans drawn, you need to consider that it takes time to make adjustments and ensure you get what you’re looking for within your budget.

If the idea of having your home under construction during the holidays is your worst nightmare, don’t worry! You can use this time for design and planning to get ahead of the game. You’ll have your home uninterrupted for the holidays and be ready to hit the ground running on building your new space in the new year.

Take Advantage of the Lull

Since so many people think they need to wait for the warm weather to return before embarking on a home building or renovation project, business for builders tends to slow down in the winter. Now that you know there’s no need to wait, take the opportunity to meet with your contractor before he’s swamped with the spring rush.

You know how important it is to find the right builder for your project, so the last thing you want to do is compromise on who does the work for the sake of getting it done when you want to. If you wait until the busy season to start your project, it could result in your project start date getting pushed out, which inevitably pushes out the completion date as well.

Think About Your Timeline

Are you hoping to have your remodel done in time for spring cleaning? Are you picturing hosting the family for Easter or a Memorial Day BBQ in your updated home? If you’re aiming to have your project completed by spring or summer, you need to start now.

There are many factors that determine the timeline of your project, from the size of the project to design revisions, etc. But one thing is certain: if you have a deadline in mind for your home project, now is the time to start talking to your builder.
